Easy Vegan and Low Carb Turmeric Milk is the perfect way to wind down after a hectic day. Ready in less than 5 minutes thanks to the magic of dried spices and an anti-inflammatory powerhouse! Made in partnership with with Vicks® PURE Zzzs™ Soothing Aromatherapy Balm.
Something that has been going on for me lately is that I have been having a lot of trouble relaxing before bed. I haven’t talked about it much but my husband has been traveling frequently for work and I’m having a really hard time winding down.
That combined with waking up early (hello #momlife) and I have been perpetually exhausted. Vicks reached out to me to try their new nighttime product and I have to say, I am really feeling the new Vicks PURE Zzzs Aromatherapy Balm. I have started a new “my husband is out of town self care routine” to try and get to bed earlier and chill out while he is traveling.
It has three main components:
- my easy Vegan Turmeric Milk (aka 5 Minute Golden Milk) Recipe
- some Vicks PURE Zzzs Aromatherapy Balm on the bottom of my feet
- a good sleep mask
Let’s break it down.
If you haven’t jumped on the Turmeric Milk or Golden Milk bandwagon yet, grab a seat. I know I’ve shared my recipe for Turmeric Milk on social media a bunch of times but I’ve really been relying on it lately and wanted to carve out a space for it here on the blog to make it easy to search for.
Turmeric Milk is essentially some spices and sweetener in milk that is heated and served warm. It is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powerhouse and a very relaxing way to end the night.
I like to use Unsweetened Vanilla Hemp or Cashew Milk as the base as they are both Vegan, usually Gluten Free (check your brands) and really creamy! If you can’t find those, you can do a combo of canned coconut milk and almond milk or whatever other non-dairy milk you like.
As for sweetener, I don’t like to end the night consuming sugar so I use a little monkfruit (like stevia but no aftertaste). You could skip this all together (but I think it needs it to balance out the spices) or just use a little coconut sugar or raw honey (not Vegan).
A lot of Turmeric Milk recipes use whole cinnamon sticks, fresh turmeric and fresh ginger. I’ve made it this way countless times but late at night, I want EASY and FAST so high quality dried spices are where it is at.
Next up is the Vicks PURE Zzzs Aromatherapy Balm.
The Balm contains Lavender and Chamomile Essential Oils in it, which are known to help you relax, and I’ve been rubbing a little on my feet when I get into bed. It smells great and bonus – I’ve been waking up with really soft feet!
Last but not least – a good sleep mask! My bedroom is already pretty dark but I have found that by putting on the sleep mask, I force myself to actually go to sleep. And, more importantly, it helps me avoid lying in bed reading on my phone or scrolling on Facebook.
This combo has really been helping me to sleep better when he is traveling! What are some of the things that help you sleep when you are anxious?
