The Quick Homemade Pasta Sauce with Sausage will quickly become a family favorite and can be on the table in under 30 minutes! Gluten Free and Whole30! Made in partnership with Pacific Foods featuring their Organic Crushed Tomatoes.
We eat at least one meal a week with pasta sauce. It’s not always with actual pasta, sometimes it’s with spiralized veggies, sometimes it’s sausage and peppers and sometimes it’s a one-pan skillet or casserole. Either way, pasta sauce is a regular thing around here.
Truth be told, I used to only make homemade sauce in the summer when fresh, seasonal tomatoes were at their peak. The rest of the year I depended on a handful of clean ingredient jarred sauces.
When Pacific Foods told me that they were launching a line of packaged tomatoes, I got excited because I know how much thought they put into their ingredients. I knew that they would be organic, free from junk and made with high-quality tomatoes. BUT, I was blown away when I first tasted them.
These are seriously the best tomatoes! The flavor is so on-point and balanced and they taste so fresh, like they came from your own garden.
See how quick and easy this sauce really is:
I had my Mom and Dad taste them all and they were instantly hooked, switched from their old brand (which they were die-hard loyal to for decades) and we talked about using the Crushed Tomatoes for a homemade sauce.
After playing around with a number of pasta sauces, this one is the one that I think you will love the most. It’s quick, easy, loaded with flavor, has added protein and is endlessly versatile. I highly suggest making a double or even triple batch and tucking some into the freezer. It reheats really well!
Quick Homemade Pasta Sauce with Sausage
The Quick Homemade Pasta Sauce with Sausage will quickly become a family favorite and can be on the table in under 30 minutes! Gluten Free and Whole30!
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large onion (yellow) chopped
- 1/2 pound mild Italian Sausage crumbled
- 10 medium cloves garlic crushed
- 2 26.46 ounce containers Pacific Foods Organic Crushed Tomatoes
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 20 turns freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 small dried bay leaves
- fresh basil to serve
Heat a dutch oven or other large soup pot over medium heat. Once hot, add olive oil. When oil is warm (30 to 45 seconds), add diced onion and crushed garlic.
Saute 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until onion begins to look translucent.
Add crumbled sausage and use a spatula to continue breaking apart as it cooks, 3 to 4 minutes, or until most of pink is gone.
Add spices (salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, crushed fennel seeds, Italian seasoning and bay leaves). Stir to toast, about 30 seconds.
Add Pacific Foods Organic Crushed Tomatoes. Bring to a gentle boil and immediatley lower heat to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for at least 20 minutes (longer is OK).
Taste, adjust seasoning if necessary and serve topped with fresh basil. Enjoy!
