This summer has been textbook perfection. So many people think of Seattle and all they think of is rain and grey skies. If you have ever been here in the summer, then you know that is about as far from the truth as possible. Summers in Western Washington are sunny and dry with gloriously long days of blue skies, pretty much no humidity, minimal annoying bugs and near-perfect daily temperatures hovering around 75F. Dreamy.
This is a picture from the steps of DeLille Cellars in Woodinville, WA (about 30 minutes from the city) where I attended one of the loveliest dinners a few weeks ago hosted by Sur La Table and Fortessa Tableware.
See what I mean? Look at this setting! Where else can you dine outdoors in the middle of summer and leave without a bug bite? You can tell that I grew up on the East Coast because even after almost six years here, I still marvel at this!
The event was a celebration of the release of the Schott Zwiesel Air and Air Sense Collection from Fortessa that is available exclusively at Sur La Table.
Schott Zwiesel Air collection is a collaboration between Prince Carl Philip of Sweden’s design firm, Bernadotte & Kylberg, and Schott Zwiesel. Together they created Schott Zwiesel Air, the lightest machine made glass, and Zwiesel 1872 Air Sense, a stunning and light hand-blown glass that improves the wine as you drink it by aerating the wine with the specially designed glass bubble.
Schott Zwiesel has been an innovator in glassware design and manufacturing for over a century. They use titanium and zirconium to give their lead-free crystal glassware a super durable (read: dishwasher safe) and brilliant finish. The glasses are paper thin and look fragile but are actually scratch resistant and meant to be put in the dishwasher. This totally blew my mind.
We had a delicious farm to table meal prepared by Joel Gamoran, the National Chef of Sur La Table and Ryan Ross, a celebrated private Chef in Washington and Chopped champion.
Each course was plated on stunning Fortessa Tableware. You have probably eaten on similar tableware at some point because Fortessa provides tableware solutions to over 70% of Forbes Four and Five Star hotels in North America as well as sells in other national retailers and of course at Sur La Table stores and SurLaTable.com.
I may or may not have come home and tried to convince my husband that we should upgrade all of our place settings and flatware for our 10th Wedding Anniversary (2 years away!). I do love what we have but I wish I would have known about Fortessa when we got engaged and registered. The pieces are so beautiful and elegant and the perfect shade of white.
Each course was paired with a different DeLille Cellars wine and of course, the appropriate Air or Air Sense glass to feature it.
I have been very fortunate in the five years that I have had my site to get invited to some fabulous events and I have to say, hands down, this is by far one of the best I’ve ever attended. Not only was it a stunning setting with a great group of people, delicious food, amazing wine, an incredible level of attention to detail but it was so educational. I learned so much about glassware and how it is made.
A huge thank you to Sur La Table, Fortessa Tableware, DeLille Cellars, the Chefs and staff who made this evening possible.
