Use prepared horseradish to amp up the flavor of your burgers! This easy hack adds so much flavor. Serve with your favorite toppings and watch them disappear! Recipe created in partnership with Silver Spring Foods featuring their Prepared Horseradish and Dijon Mustard.

Late last year I partnered with my friends at Silver Spring Foods to create this recipe for Zesty Horseradish Burgers. At the time, I only shared it on my social channels. But, it was so popular and after getting countless emails from y’all asking me to make it easier to find by posting it here, I have answered the call.

Horseradish Burgers Ingredients

  1. Ground Beef
  2. Silver Spring Foods Prepared Horseradish
  3. Silver Spring Foods Dijon Mustard
  4. Kosher Salt
  5. Black Pepper
  6. Buns and Your Favorite Toppings!

This is such a simple recipe, I wasn’t surprised that you guys loved it so much. We have been eating these burgers at least 1x per month since I came up with the recipe last year. Even my kids love them (especially my 5-year old)!

You take ground beef (keep reading for substitutions) and combine it with a little salt, pepper, Dijon Mustard, and Prepared Horseradish. Mix until just combined (you never want to overwork ground meat, or it can get tough), form into patties and grill, pan-fry, broil, or bake.

Then, you top these with your favorite toppings. The picture below is melted cheddar cheese (2 slices), crispy iceberg lettuce, fresh sliced vine-ripened tomato, red onion and a smidge of my homemade mayonnaise.

Serve on your favorite buns and impress everyone!

Also, important to note, while the prepared horseradish does have a kick, it is not crazy spicy. However, if making for kids, I highly recommend making sure that they have either cheese or mayo to slightly tamper the kick!

Tips to make Horseradish Burgers

Here are some tips and substitutions to ensure that they come out perfectly every single time!

  • Not a big red meat eater? If you want to use ground chicken or turkey, I recommend cutting back the prepared horseradish to 2.5 Tablespoons as the meat is much more mild in flavor and can become easily overwhelmed by the zesty kick of prepared horseradish.
  • Feeding a crowd? You can make these patties in advance. Prepare and form patties, refrigerate for up to 24 hours before cooking. Or, prepare and freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe container or storage bag, label, and defrost as needed.
  • Cooking Ideas: These burgers will cook up like any other burger. While my instructions in the recipe card below are for pan-frying, feel free to grill, bake,  or broil. Basically, any way you normally cook your burgers.
  • Topping Ideas: If you eat dairy, cheese is a great compliment to prepared horseradish. If not, homemade 1-minute mayonnaise is a perfect dairy-free option to balance out the zesty kick of the horseradish. Bacon is great. If you want spicy, pickled jalapenos and BBQ sauce are excellent!

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish
Buns, Favorite Toppings for Serving
Instructions
  1. Mix all ingredients together until just mixed. Take care not to overwork the ground meat.

  2. Divide mixture into 4 evenly sized patties. Press a thumb print in the center of each burger patty (this helps the burgers cook flat).

  3. Heat a large (12") cast-iron or stainless-steel skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add all 4 burgers with a bit of space around each one.

  4. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium, only turning 1x when the meat naturally releases from the frying pan.

  5. Serve with your favorite toppings and Enjoy!

NOTES:

Wow!! We made these yesterday for Mother’s Day with your potato salad, boiled corn, watermelon and chocolate sheet cake. They were such a big hit and very easy. Thank you (from a Dad who doesn’t cook that much)
