As most of you know, we just welcomed our second son into the world and our family. I have invited some of my favorite bloggers to share guest posts with us every Friday for the next couple of months while I decrease my workload and focus on integrating our newest little person into our family.
Be excited because not only are these amazing bloggers to discover but they will be sharing some pretty fabulous Real Food recipes, kitchen tips and tricks and even crafts!
Today, we welcome Vanessa from Plaid and Paleo. You will love her blog – she is into really clean, flavorful food that spans across many cuisines. Vanessa is sharing a delish meatball inspired by a California Club. Thank you so much Vanessa – I can’t wait to make a batch of these!
Hey all! I am very excited to be blogging on Everyday Maven today, while Alyssa enjoys her new little one. Before moving back to the Midwest, I lived in Los Angeles for three years. Los Angeles is the capital of avocados and the epitome of the California Club. Going paleo meant no more sandwiches for me, but I wasn’t ready to sacrifice something I loved.
One of my favorite things to do is recreate classic dishes in a new way. Instead of just making a paleo version, I deconstruct the flavors and create a completely new dish.
These Bacon Ranch Meatballs with Avocado Ranch dip are my take on the California Club. You still have the turkey, bacon, red onion and avocado, but in a whole new way. I added in the ranch seasoning for an extra boost of flavor. I love having seasoning blends on hand as an easy way to add quick flavor to dishes.
Any college basketball fans out there? I am a huge basketball fan and love a good reason to whip up a gameday appetizer. These Bacon Ranch Meatballs are packed with flavor and make the perfect bite-sized snack.

A year after going Paleo, Vanessa started the blog Plaid and Paleo to simply stay accountable to eating healthy. It has grown into a full blown passion, where Vanessa posts new recipes multiple times a week. She is a lover of all things food especially unique combinations and anything ethnic. When she isn’t in the kitchen, you can find Vanessa reading a book, cheering on the KU Jayhawks or talking about how she should probably be at a yoga class.
