Hey all! I am very excited to be blogging on Everyday Maven today, while Alyssa enjoys her new little one. Before moving back to the Midwest, I lived in Los Angeles for three years. Los Angeles is the capital of avocados and the epitome of the California Club. Going paleo meant no more sandwiches for me, but I wasn’t ready to sacrifice something I loved.
One of my favorite things to do is recreate classic dishes in a new way. Instead of just making a paleo version, I deconstruct the flavors and create a completely new dish.
These Bacon Ranch Meatballs with Avocado Ranch dip are my take on the California Club. You still have the turkey, bacon, red onion and avocado, but in a whole new way. I added in the ranch seasoning for an extra boost of flavor. I love having seasoning blends on hand as an easy way to add quick flavor to dishes.
Any college basketball fans out there? I am a huge basketball fan and love a good reason to whip up a gameday appetizer. These Bacon Ranch Meatballs are packed with flavor and make the perfect bite-sized snack.

- 1.25 lbs ground turkey
- 4 bacon slices, cooked crispy
- 2 tbls ranch seasoning
- 1/2 cup red onion, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 avocado, pitted
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1 tbls ranch seasoning
- 1/8 tsp sea salt
- For the meatballs:
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Use a cookie scoop to form uniform meatballs then roll in your palms to make them smooth.
- Place on a lined cookie sheet and cook for 20 minutes.
- For the dip:
- Mix all ingredients together in a blender until smooth.
A year after going Paleo, Vanessa started the blog Plaid and Paleo to simply stay accountable to eating healthy. It has grown into a full blown passion, where Vanessa posts new recipes multiple times a week. She is a lover of all things food especially unique combinations and anything ethnic.
