Things have been pretty quiet around here for the past couple of weeks. I wish I could tell you that I have been super busy doing fun holiday activities with my family or visiting friends or traveling or getting creative in the kitchen but actually I have just been sick.
Like super sick. Being 8 1/2 months pregnant and sick is just about as bad as it sounds. Besides the fact that you can’t really take anything and are already supremely uncomfortable, add into the mix a vicious cough (with a baby sitting on your bladder if you know what I’m saying), stuffed up nose, sore throat and general sense of having absolutely zero energy and you make for a pretty freaking miserable time.
Oh, and did I mention – I can’t taste ANYTHING. I obviously haven’t been cooking at all but even in the rare moments the last couple of weeks where I have had the energy, I seriously can’t taste anything so I don’t trust myself to correctly season anything. Fun times.
The good news is that I am starting to feel better. Well, mostly anyway. I still have pretty stuffed up sinuses and can’t really taste but I am very hopeful that this residual sickness will clear up by the middle of this week because dare I say it but I am getting kind of sick of chicken soup. I know – me sick of soup? – sacrilege!!
So Friday morning I woke up in my sick induced haze to the nicest surprise from some of my food blogging friends – a virtual baby shower!
Faith from An Edible Mosaic and Liz from The Lemon Bowl organized a very talented group of my food blogger friends and not only did they each take the time to create a recipe to “bring” to the shower but wrote the kindest and clearly tear-inducing stuff about me. Oh, and these generous ladies chipped in and sent me a gift!
To say I was shocked and surprised would be an understatement. Not only did I have zero idea any of this was going on but it was like a huge ray of sunshine streaming in my window and cheered me up so much. I am so grateful to all of these wonderful women and thankful to be part of such a generous and loving community.
Check out all of these thoughtful and delicious recipes they created. I have printed out a bunch of them to give to my mom – she doesn’t know it yet, but she is going to be stocking my freezer with yummy meals for us to eat once the baby arrives (thanks Mom!).
