This post is for all of you with a sweet tooth who just need a little something every couple of days or so, but don’t want to give in to eating junk.
Here are six Paleo friendly sweet treats, 5 of which are also vegan (as long as you buy vegan chocolate) and low in Weight Watchers Points Plus and are easy to make!
Let’s start with an old favorite - Baked Peanut Butter + Chocolate Banana Boats. Now, if you are Paleo or have a peanut allergy, you can easily substitute almond butter, cashew butter or sunbutter.
I love to keep chia pudding in my fridge. One of my favorite variations is this Triple Almond Chia Pudding. The almond milk, slivered almonds and pure almond extract have such a rich flavor, every time I make this I can’t believe there isn’t cream or milk in the ingredients.
While we are talking about almonds, I have to mention these Chocolate Covered Apricots with Crushed Almonds. So easy to make and only 1 Points Plus each, they are an awesome treat to have stashed in your pantry or freezer. Just make sure to buy unsulphured dried apricots.
(NOT VEGAN) It’s a good thing they are so easy to make because these Mini Vanilla Macaroons very rarely last more than a day in my house. Another 1 Points Plus treat with minimal, natural ingredients that is big on taste. You can always had a drizzle of dark chocolate if you want to make them a bit more indulgent.
Sometimes just 2 or 3 Medjool dates and a cup of tea is enough to satisfy a sweet craving for me. Sometimes it’s not. When I need more, I love to make a treat that plays on date’s natural sweetness and bumps it up a notch. These Almond-Date Bites Rolled in Toasted Coconut always answer the call. Man, they are G-O-O-D! I do have to warn you, it is very hard to eat just 1 or 2 of these.
My personal favorite healthy sweet treat is my Dark Chocolate Covered Date Cups. They are only 2 Points Plus each. The Medjool dates really shine in this creamy, caramel-like filling for dark chocolate cups. These also make a fantastic gift! Many craft stores (Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Joann, etc.) sell candy making and packaging supplies which makes it relatively easy to make homemade, real-food candy and surprise someone with a beautifully packaged treat.
OK, now I am hungry. I am heading to the kitchen to make a Baked Banana Boat with Sunbutter and dark chocolate chips.
